The Committee on Trauma (COT) of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), with contributions from Wraparound's Founding Director Rochelle Dicker, developed a strategy to reduce death and disability from firearm injury. This strategy is based on a public health model and includes prevention of injuries through Violence Intervention Programs such as The Wraparound Project. This article is a compilation of both the epidemiology of firearm injuries and the efforts to prevent injuries, and is a critical step to raising awareness of this burden and the role of Public Health methodology in addressing it.
